What changed

X (formerly Twitter) must verify that all Australian users are at least 16 years old to hold an account. For sensitive or NSFW content, users must be verified as 18+.

X began enforcing this from March 9, 2026. The platform chose to comply with Australia's laws rather than block access (unlike Pornhub's parent company Aylo).

How X verifies your age

X offers two methods:

The repeated verification bug

Many Australian users are reporting that X keeps asking them to verify their age every time they try to view sensitive content, even after they've already completed verification. The platform displays a pop-up asking for age confirmation before accessing NSFW posts.

This appears to be a bug in X's rollout. Users have shared workarounds including opening the Media tab of an account directly (which sometimes bypasses the prompt) or using a VPN to connect from outside Australia.

There's no official fix from X yet. If you're experiencing this, it's not just you.

What happens if you don't verify

Accounts that refuse or fail verification may be restricted, locked, or removed from the platform. Under-16 accounts are locked. X has stated that users who don't complete age verification will lose access to sensitive content and may face full account restrictions.
